Based on SAM, 9-12 Homework:

1. Lengthening Vowel Sounds -- the tricky ones are "O" and "E".

Instead of the more obvious choice of お or え we use う to lengthen the "O" sound,

and

い to lengthen the "E" sound. e.g.,

Koo = こう　Soo = そう　

Imooto = いもうと

See or Sei ＝ せい

Mee or Mei = めい

Reezooko = れいぞうこ

Yuumee = ゆうめい　

Sensee = せんせい

But, Ookii = おおきい (exception?) the long "O" is two おお at the beginning.

 

And when we are doing Glides, don't forget when combining two hiragana characters into one "Glide," the second one will be Smaller and Placed Lower down. e.g. きょ、しゃ、ひゃ、しょ、りょ、ちゃ
